All 18 of our South African artisans who produce our copper and brass jewelry came to the studio with absolutely no education or experience making jewelry. With hard work and dedication, each of them is now skilled in making amazing and high quality pieces which include necklaces, cuffs, bracelets and earrings. Most recently, we began a new collection of rings which have become our best selling category.
In addition to our work with our artisans, World Shoppe launched Bits for Bytes in September with the goal of raising $10,000 over the course of a year to pay the school fees of two young girls as well as double the amount of computers in the school where one of our artisans sends her son. While it’s important for us to support our artisans by providing them with fair wages and safe working conditions, we feel strongly in educating young girls so they can contribute to the economic development of their families and communities as they grow older. We recently learned that one of our students is heading to Johannesburg to represent her school in a national science competition – something that would not be possible without the financial assistance to keep her in school.
